hi hello how's it going so i'm bringing you guys my third episode of buzzed in or new york city apartment tours that i do here where i basically go and show off a friend's apartment instead of just showing off the apartment the decor we also talk a bit about the neighborhood they live in what it's like what the culture is like to kind of give you a better idea of what new york is like in all the different neighborhoods there are so today i'm super excited so we're heading to the northern section of brooklyn to go to bedford stuyvesant also known as bed style more commonly to go see my friend tyra and she's got very cool style so i'm excited to show off her space bed stuff is a super interesting area ever since the 1930s it's been known as kind of being this major cultural center for the black community in brooklyn in the 1930s or so people that lived in harlem originally slowly started their making way down to bed stuy and that's kind of how it became this is really interesting historical and cultural past for people i know that live there they say that it has a very tight-knit feel to it and the community really works to like highlight the positive elements of their history and their past for example when you walk around you can see these really huge murals highlighting and honoring some like the famous community members i can see a huge one of notorious big and activists and poet june jordan i feel like you can't talk about bed stuy especially when it comes to apartments without talking about gentrification it's undergone a lot of gentrification in the last two decades ever since like the early 2000s or so but tyler's going to talk a little bit more about that as well and then just one other cool fact about bed stuy that i thought was really interesting is that xday has the largest selection of victorian architecture in the country with like over 8 000 buildings being built before the 1900s so a lot of beautiful like brown stones townhouses it has just really cool architecture when you walk around there so that's enough for me i've chatted enough i'm going to head on over to bed stuy and kind of give tyra the mic to talk a little bit about her apartment her neighborhood and hope you guys learn a bit more about bed stuff hi i'm tyra welcome to my two bedroom apartment in bed stuy i'm tyra i'm from new york i'm from the upper west side uh i'm 25 i got my first job at l'oreal and i've been there ever since so um now i'm a brand communications manager for these two brands attilia cologne and mason margella so right now we're in my apartment in bed stuy and i pay for this apartment 1500 but the apartment two-bedroom is three thousand so this is my living room my favorite area of my apartment we got a lot of great things in here i mean this credenza and this coffee table i found from this really nice um store and bedside called bedford galleries it's like a vintage furniture store i love adding color in my living room with the screen couch um that we got from world market this mirror is also from urban outfitters the sail section my other favorite thing is this large mirror which i actually found on the street outside of my old apartment yeah there's a woman who was moving out of like the sixth floor of this really crazy apartment building i lived in and this is one of the things that she gave away i absolutely love it this is my favorite little nook in this living room because it's so cozy so i like to read over here which is really nice i open these cameras because of my birthday i asked for everyone to bring a disposable camera so that we could just like take photos all night and have good memories from my birthday the moma ps1 has a book fair i bought this really cool architecture book from it but i feel like most of the things in here are from like vintage stores that i just like found along the way so this is where i eat all of my food table we actually also got from bedford galleries and these chairs are from ikea i feel like chairs are really annoying things to find like all the same of vintage and then this really cute artwork natalie found from like a swedish woman on etsy and then this face she also found off of pepsi too so welcome to the kitchen this is one of the nicer kitchens that we've had because we have like huge refrigerator space and freezer space that we've never had i mean if you're in new york like you never have any sort of space to cook a new kitchen i've been getting really into cooking in quarantine i've been making a bunch of different things i feel like i taught myself how to cook from like the new york times recipe section and bon appetit together i love hosting dinner parties gatherings for people to come over here and then on this side um it's way more interesting so i found this on the street actually on the upper east side outside of the guggenheim and it's so beautiful so we kind of put it behind here to like make it like a nice wall decoration and this bar cart i think we got from world market too but my roommate and i have been really into making cocktails recently all these cute little glasses are probably my favorite things in my apartment these are from coming soon coming soon is in the lower east side and it's a really cute place to find like glassware cute things for your bathroom they sell furniture too but i think i mean if you need your glassware go to coming soon so this area is entering my bathroom this is my roommate's room and then also my room which will take you through but this is my bathroom the shower curtain and the bath mat we got from urban outfitters um on sale too and this shelf we made um from target because we just wanted extra space to put product this is my room let's see i got so many things so this rug is from coming soon but it's from the brand called cold picnic which makes really nice rugs bedding is from doosan and doosan this nightstand is from abigail vintage which is a home decor site that sells a lot of stuff on instagram i purchased this directly off of instagram i love their stuff yeah it's so cute and i did the same thing for this base this light is from dobbin tree co-op which is a really nice vintage store in brooklyn there is also from top and street co-op and really was such a journey to find a way to facilitate it to be in this room because as you can see it's huge lessons learned when you buy things off of instagram ask for the measurement because i didn't realize this mirror was so big when i purchased it off of instagram and the dresser i had didn't actually fit the size of this mirror so it was on my floor for like months but now i love it it's so much fun i'm a beauty junkie i collect lots of product um so everyone that comes into this room i'm odds are i'm probably doing their makeup they're using my makeup or i'm teaching them how to use makeup i cleared out a drawer to make it my face oh my god facilitate my addiction my favorite product that i'm using right now is this kavanaugh face glow if you want to have naturally dewy skin this is the product that you mix in with your moisturizer and your face will just like have a really beautiful doing this to it i feel like everyone always goes through the debate of if you want a desk in your room or if you want a vanity in your room i really wanted like another area in my room where my friends could like sit and hang out while i'm like getting ready and also i can sit and do work and relax so i love this guy um and i found it at bedford galleries this other furniture store event size this is my closet one of the bigger closets i've had in new york this is one of my favorite pieces it's like a really bright blue rain jacket that i found in l.a at a vintage store oh i can put on this coat this is a really fun coat that i just got from this brand called stan studio i mean it's insane but it's also kind of amazing oh yes oh my god um i feel very chic in it and this is a hat that i got at sincerely tommy my interior style is i find a lot of inspiration from a lot of small home stores that i follow on instagram dog tree co-op abigail vintage um there's one called gates house that's really nice then there are some influencers on instagram that i feel like have a really great aesthetic like alyssa in the city who you know really prides herself in like kind of supporting small businesses and so i love incorporating both kind of looks and feels into my own apartment that i'm from new york i'm from the upper west side i absolutely love new york i always say i'm going to live and die here i think everything about the city gives you such amazing energy such amazing confidence so much diversity in terms of style look and feel some people would ask me like how i find my personal style my favorite spot to like look for outfit inspiration is actually the pathways and when you're exiting the subway i love like walking by people in the subway and just seeing what they're wearing and being from here i feel like it just makes you incredibly independent you think like nothing is too far out of reach bedside is such a beautiful neighborhood with such rich history i feel like of beautiful black-owned businesses really beautiful brownstones just a really like nice community of good food good shopping like a lot of beautiful ideas are born out of bed size some of my favorite spots are here i mean my favorite furniture store bedford galleries is only a couple of blocks away all of the food here is really really good they have a lot of like caribbean and mexican food here my favorite mexican spot is chilos sincerely tell me which is like a beautiful black-owned business that sells like really nice niche fashion pieces but sincerely tommy every sunday facilitates kind of like a street fair to support like black owned businesses and like local vendors and it's a part of this initiative that's called building back bedside i feel like this initiative was born out of like the protests that were happening around black lives matter to help support bed because it's a historically black neighborhood and then i also took you guys to playground coffee shop which is a really exciting coffee shop that participates in things within like art and culture and music and they're doing a lot of cool things like creating a free fridge that like people can collect food from and need they have like a book fair where you can like donate books and they'll give out books to the community and they just recently created a greenhouse to help build local produce it's a coffee shop with a cause and has and branches out into so many different other areas but the interesting thing about bedside also brooklyn is it's under the process of being gentrified the reality is that that's always going to be something that happens in new york my block on the upper west side is not the same as when i started growing up there as it is now like you know when i left there was a whole foods underneath my building the same thing is um happening in bedside and i feel like finding a balance between if you live here helping to support local businesses and helping to honor the amazing rich history of it while living here is like a beautiful way to kind of speak about all the amazing things that have come out of this area you
